Before the Millennium was a Decade Young

This evening, I scanned through the seemingly endless files in my "pictures" folder on my old computer and happened to stumble upon this photo (pictured at left). I do not quite recall where it was taken, but the date on the folder indicated that it was taken on December 23, 2009, only a few days before the new millenium turned a decade young.

This picture was taken in the year when the President of the United States was finishing his first year in office, and when Americans were more familiar with a disease that had spawned from pigs than the trillions of dollars of debt their government was accumulating. This picture was taken in the year when Israel and Palestine went on an all-out war, and when the North Koreans performed their second successful nuclear test. Finally, this picture was taken in the year in which the world grieved in wake of the death of the King of Pop.

What do you remember from 2009 that influenced you or the world? What are some notable changes that you see in the world today in comparison to 2009?
